Notara Mansion

Located almost at the center of the village of Drosopigi, at an altitude of 830 meters, the Notara Mansion still stands today, almost intact. This three-story house features wide verandas and an inner courtyard. Close to the mansion, within 20 meters, stands the "Tower of Notara." The mansion is known from the references of the English traveler Leake to have belonged to Sotirakis Notaras. In fact, the English traveler mentioned the existence of the house when he visited the area in the early 19th century, meaning the building has stood in the center of Drosopigi for over 200 years.

Drosopigi is considered the second seat of the Notara family after Trikala, and it is believed by locals that the village was founded by one of the ancestors of the legendary family. Local tradition tells the story of the lord Notaras, who passed through the area and temporarily tied his horse to one of the numerous village springs. However, when he returned from his journey, he found it devoured by a wolf!

Today, the Notara Mansion is owned by descendants of the original owners and stands proudly, though it has been severely damaged by time and lack of maintenance. Visitors can only admire it from the outside, as a remarkable architectural work whose walls and courtyards have witnessed significant moments in modern Greek history.

Admission:

Access is not permitted as it is a private property. The building is accessible from the main road of Drosopigi, and visitors can only admire it from the outside.
