Despite being situated at an altitude of 540 meters, the community of Megalos Valtos has chosen a maritime saint, Saint Nicholas, as its patron. The church, located in the southern part of the village, is built in a cruciform architectural style using stone, a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of the stonemasons who constructed it around 120 years ago, after the original church, located at a higher point, was destroyed.
Since 1911, it has served as the parish and the patron church of the village, drawing numerous visitors each year, as several miracles have been reported here.
