At the heart of Klimenti, at an altitude of approximately 900 meters, overlooking the entire plain of Pellini, stands the Holy Church of Saint George, one of the most historic churches in the area. According to historical records, the first church at this location was built in 1650, dedicated to Saint George, reflecting the warrior spirit of the local inhabitants, who were more likely to have been fighters than farmers or shepherds, choosing a knight saint as their protector.
This original small church served not only as a place of worship but also as an improvised school for the children of the village and surrounding areas. In 1900, it was decided to build a new, larger church, and the construction work was entrusted to skilled stone and wood craftsmen from the region of Epirus. By the autumn of 1904, the new church was completed, but, as local traditions recount, a severe rainstorm caused significant damage to the structure, delaying its final completion until 1905.
The church houses remarkable icons, created by the monk Avramios and his followers from Mount Athos, who worked in Klimenti from 1910 to 1913. Also noteworthy is the wooden iconostasis, a masterpiece by Ioannis Vasileiou from Ioannina, crafted in 1924.
